ASPIRE PAC Statement on Supreme Court Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, ASPIRE PAC Chair Grace Meng released the following statement denouncing the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade:
“Throughout our history, the Supreme Court has played a foundational role in expanding the rights and freedoms of the American people, not stripping them away. Today’s blatantly political decision to ignore 50 years of established precedent is nothing short of an attack on women’s rights to make their own healthcare decisions. This rollback will especially harm women from communities of color, including AAPI women, and low-income women. Make no mistake, today’s decision will only embolden Republican leaders in their efforts to further take away our reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy. And it’s not just women’s rights at stake - the Court’s opinion makes it clear that access to contraception and the rights of our LGBTQ friends and neighbors are also on the chopping block.
“We cannot give up our fight. We must continue to make our voices heard. We must vote in November and make it clear that women’s rights are human rights.”
Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders Rising & Empowering Political Action Committee (ASPIRE PAC) is the political arm of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Members of Congress. According to the 2020 census, the AAPI community is the fastest-growing demographic in the country. In addition, in 2020 the AAPI community increased its voter turnout more than any other community of color. ASPIRE PAC is chaired by Congresswoman Grace Meng. There are currently 21 AAPI Members of Congress, including two U.S. Senators.###
